Crusader Youth Camp Alumni Reunion Recap—
On April 17th there was around 350 people who gathered for the first Crusader Youth Camp Alumni Reunion. The Camp began in 1948 in Watha, NC with 17 boys and girls under the passionate leadership of the young Myrtle Holder. Sister Holder was present at the Alumni Reunion and shared the joys of seeing a ministry now averaging some 700 campers each year. It is amazing what God has done through the years for our young people. God has young people more on His heart than the church seems to realize. The Reunion saw directors from the past and current workers sharing in the dream for the future. A plaque was presented by action of the PFWB Church General Board of Directors with the names of all the directors on it. Hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks were served to everyone making the day a great success. Pastor Virgil Murphy was present with the tractor and trailer to give the kids the familiar ride over a route that their parents had traveled when attending youth camp. Games, horseback riding and other activities reminding everyone of years in the history of youth camp were carried on throughout the day.
The day concluded around a large trailer as the stage for campers from the past standing on the trailer singing and celebrating a mutual history in their lives. One of the greatest blessings was to see relationships that began in youth camp continuing in the lives of those who have since moved away, gotten married, involved in various ministries but still looking back on formative years in their lives at Crusader Youth Camp. I came away convinced we don’t realize the value and impact of the ministry of this camp on a generation—now becoming multiple generations. Only Heaven will fully reveal what God has in mind for the Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church Crusader Youth Camp.
Let me say a special thanks to Rev. Dock Hobbs, Rev. Dale Sauls and the team that pulled this event together. Your efforts have reached farther than you realize. A special appreciation should be highlighted for Rev. Dale Sauls who chaired the committee in sponsoring this event.
